Glass industry to Witness Completion of Three Projects During 2017-19

Aggregate investment pegged at Rs.50 billion

Glass industry, which is likely to have completed two projects amounting to Rs.6 billion in 2016-17, is expected to witness completion of three projects during 2017-19. The projects that are likely to get completed during 2017-19 belong to Hindusthan National Glass, Gujarat Borosil and Saint Gobain India. A total investment of Rs.50 billion is likely to be spread across the three projects. The details of these projects are stated below:
Hindusthan National Glass is working on its float glass manufacturing project in Naidupet, Andhra Pradesh. The project, which will comprise of two container and one float glass plants, is expected to get completed by March 2018. The project will be completed in two phases. Phase I, which got completed in September 2012, added a capacity of 0.21 million tonnes, while Phase II will increase the capacity of the plant by 0.28 million tonnes. The company is likely to invest Rs.40 billion towards the completion of the project.
Saint Gobain India is working on its Sriperumbudur Third Float Glass and Second Magnetron Coater Plant Project in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The plant is expected to get completed by April 2018. With its float glass unit, the company will ramp up its production from 1500 tonnes per day to 2500 tonnes per day. The capacity of its coater unit will increase from 60 million square feet now, to 144 million square feet. The expansion of these units will contribute an additional 30 per cent to Saint Gobain’s revenue. The company is likely to invest Rs.10 billion on this project.
Gujarat Borosil is planning to set up its coating glass tempering unit in Bharuch, Gujarat. The company will also set up a new furnace with a capacity of 250 tonnes per day. At present, the cost details of the project are unavailable. The company plans to complete this project by May 2017.
